DUTIES:
The Nursing Assistant (Telemetry) provides continuous cardiac surveillance, interpretation and reporting of monitor and telemetry tracing of patients on the medical surgical floor. The incumbent is expected to recognize changes in patientsÂ' condition and demonstrate proficiency in identifying the need for intervention. Incumbent considers patientsÂ' needs and priorities in completing assignments which must be performed with accuracy and dependability. Incumbent is responsible for observing, recording and interpreting all cardiac rhythm strips on monitored patients. Efficiently and effectively communicates information with physicians and nurses to deliver quality patient care. Incumbent performs cardiac monitoring activities including initiation, recording, interpreting and discontinuing telemetry. Recognizes and reports changes in a patientÂ's telemetry reading outside the established parameters to appropriate health care personnel. Identifies normal sinus rhythm and recognizes dysrhythmias and documents pertinent data accurately. Incumbent maintains patient cardiac rhythm tracing on the console through communication with appropriate RN and monitors for non-invasive blood pressure (NIBP) and continuous pulse oximetry (SPO2) alarm events. Incumbent provides general clerical/administrative support and coordination for telemetry records. Uses computer access to record procedures performed, observations, results, etc. in patient progress notes in the computer. Gives nurses an accurate, timely and concise report. Incumbent provides a range of general and specialized direct patient care services to include, but not limited to, catheterizations; suctioning; irrigations; feeding; lifting and turning patients; collecting basic patient data; administering enemas; taking and recording vital signs; performing sterile and unsterile dressing changes; applying safety devices; collecting urine, sputum and stool specimens, setting up and operating special equipment; applying oxygen as directed by registered nurse; communicating with patients, their families and staff.

Experience
GS-4: At least 6 months of general experience, plus 6 months of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade (GS-3) in Federal service.
General Experience: Any type of work that demonstrates the ability to perform the work of a Nursing Assistant or experience that provided a familiarity with the subject matter or processes of the broad subject area of the occupation (i.e. working in a healthcare environment assisting patients).
Specialized Experience: Qualifying specialized experience includes nonprofessional nursing care work in a hospital, outpatient clinic, nursing home or other medical, nursing or patient care facility, or in such work that of a home health aid performine duties such as providing personal nursing care (e.g. pre-and post-operative care); support duties for diagnostic and technical treatment procedures (e.g. setting up and operating special medical equipment and apparatus); caring for mentally ill patients, including obeserving, recording and reporting changes in their behavior and providing reassurance and encouragement; and/or assisting surgeons and regisered nurses in operating room activities, including passing instruments, maintaining sterile conditions and draping and positioning patients.

Education
GS-4: Successful completion of a 2-year degree program in an accredited community college, junior college, or college or university in practical nursing or in a field of study appropriate to the specialization of the position, such as education in a program for psychology, psychiatric or operating room technician.

Combining Experience and Education: Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience are also qualifying.
