DUTIES:
The G.V. (Sonny) Montgomery VA Medical Center (VAMC) a! nd the Department of Orthopedic Surgery of the University of Mississippi School of Medicine (UMMC)are seeking an orthopedic surgeon for a staff position based at the Jackson VA Medical Center. Requirements include completion of an accredited orthopedic surgery residency, board eligible/board certification in orthopedic surgery, and experience in teaching medical students and residents. We are affiliated with the UMMC and the successful candidate must have credentials to receive a faculty appointment in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at the UMMC. As such, the candidate would be expected to participate in teaching activities at the University and the VAMC, Jackson. These duties will include teaching medical students and residents on the ward, in the outpatient Orthopedic clinic, and the operating room. The successful candidate will be expected to see patients in the clinic, perform open and arthroscopic orthopedic surgery, and rotate call with two other orthopedic surge! ons. Research opportunities are also available.

Our VA is a 163 bed acute care medical center with a 120 bed nursing home care unit, outpatient clinics, and a research and education facility. VA Healthcare providers are entitled to immunity from medical malpractice claims as provided by the Federal Tort Claims Act. Relocation expenses will not be reimbursed.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
U.S. Citizens (Non citizens may be appointed when no qualified citizens are available.

Education: Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine.

Licensure and Registration: Must have current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a State, Ter! ritory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Col! umbia.

English Language Proficiency: Physicians appointed to direct patient-care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) and 7405(f).

DRUG TESTING AND PHYSICAL: All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA. A pre-employment physical examination shall be made to determine the physical and mental fitness of candidates for appointment in the VA. Physical examination must be satisfactorily completed.

You will need to successfully complete a background security investigation before you can be appointed into this position.
