Duties:
This is a unique opportunity to join a newly revised Primary Care format. The Position offers the opportunity to provide outstan! ding medical care while utilizing state of the art technologies (including telemedicine) for your patients. The incumbent is expecyed to annually develop and evaluate professional and personal goals. Establish and maintain professional relationships within Primary Care Service and with other services and facility management which result in improved patient care. Demonstrate sound decision making skills, both clinical and administrative, which bring credit to the profession and serves to enhance the distinctive and contributory role of physicians. Identify individual professional learning needs and participate in formal programs, workshops, seminars, and conferences, as well as self-directed learning activities. Have appr! oved clinical privileges in the areas of his/her medical exper! tise and in all areas required to carry out the duties of his/her assignments/responsibilities within Primary Care Service. Facilities the delivery of appropriate patient care in collaboration with other health professionals and medical center staff and management.
Qualifications & Evaluations
Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
(1) Schools of medicine holding regular institutional membership in the Association of American Medical Colleges for the year in which the degree was granted.
(2) Schools of osteopathic medicine by the American Osteopathic Association for the year in which the degree was granted.
(3) Schools (including foreign schools) accepted by the licensing body of a St! ate, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico), or in the District of Columbia.
First-Year Residency (Internship): Must have been completed a first-year residency, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans' Affairs for the year it was completed. For a VA resident, the appropriate Deans Committee and Resident Review Board may recommend appointment on the basis of the candidates acceptability for residency training. Approved residencies are:
(1) those approved by the Council on Medical Education and Hospitals, American Medical Association, in the list published for the year the residency completed,
OR
(2) Other residencies or their equivalents which the Professional Standards Board determines to have provided an applicant with appropriate professional training. The Board may determine that the residency requirements has been met if the candidate has completed 1 year of postgraduate education.
Licensure:! Must possess and maintain a current, full, and unrestricted licens! ure to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or in the District of Columbia.
