GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES â€" Under general supervision, functions as a member of the sterile team, creating and maintaining a sterile field, supplying surgeon with needed instruments and supplies in accordance with establis! hed Policies and Procedures of Garden Park Medical Center. Assists in transportation and nursing care of surgical patients of all ages, as well as assisting with and assuming general departmental duties and responsibilities. Functions as a Circulating Nurse under direct supervision of a Staff RN.

SUPERVISOR â€" Operating Room Supervisor

DUTIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
1. Assembles supplies and equipment needed for surgical procedures.

2. Prepares and maintains sterile instrument table.

3. Assist with patient draping for surgery in accordance with hospital standards.

4. Maintains aseptic techniques and actively monitors situations which could lead to breaches in aseptic technique.

5. Provides comfort and support for intra-operative patients.

6. Transports patients to and from surgical suite.

7. Assists in positioning patient according to type of surgery.

8. Assists the surgical! team in surgical procedures which may include passing instrum! ents, sponges and sutures.

9. Maintains work area.

10. Gathers equipment for cleaning and sterilization.

11. Assists in the monitoring of the patient through the procedure.

12. Provides age and culturally appropriate care.

13. Orients and mentors new staff members.

14. Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required.

15. Practice and adhere to the “Code of Conduct” philosophy and “Mission and Value Statement”.

16. Promote positive and collaborative atmosphere with all members of the healthcare team

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES â€" This position requires the following minimal requirements:

1. Must have customer service abilities including effective listening skills.

2. Must be detail-oriented with ability to sustain concentration over long periods of time.

3. Must have critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to! work with minimal supervision in a fast paced environment.

4. Must role model ethical, safe, fiscally responsible practices

5. Must be able to read and comprehend written instructions and follow verbal instructions.

6. Must have the ability to handle multiple priorities.

7. Must demonstrate teamwork and team building skills

Meets annual requirements for mandatory education and required Garden Park credentialing

Qualifications

EDUCATION â€" Graduation from a School of Surgical Technology preferred.

EXPERIENCE â€" Minimum of 1 year Operating Room experience preferred.

CERTIFICATE/LICENSE â€" Certification by Association of Surgical Technicians preferred; current BCLS certification

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS â€" Requires corrected hearing and vision to within functional ranges. Requires frequent bending, reaching, squatting, kneeling, moving, lifting of patients, and sufficient ! manual dexterity to operate therapeutic equipment. Must be able to stan! d for long periods at a time. Good mental and physical health to work for long periods of time in a highly stressful atmosphere is required.
