(GCVHCS) is a multi-divisional health care system based. The main hospital
campus is located in Biloxi, Mississippi w! ith Community Based Outpatient
Clinics (CBOC) spanning 300 miles along the gulf coast in Mobile, AL,
Pensacola, Ft. Walton Beach, and Panama City, Florida. The Chief Medical
Service is responsible for the delivery of care in the acute inpatient medical
unit, the intensive care unit, the emergency department and outpatient medical
specialty care in the CBOCs. Over 200,000 veterans reside in our service area.
The GCVHCS has affiliation agreements with three medical schools and numerous
associated health programs. We support resident training in cardiology,
dermatology, general surgery, otolaryngology, ophthalmology, psychiatry,
radiology, and dental programs, as well as a general thoracic fellowship. The
residents rotate from the University of South Alabama in Mobile, Tulane
University in New Orleans, Louisiana State University in New Orleans, and

The Gulf Coast Veterans Health Care System (GCVHCS) isrecruiting for an energetic physician to function as a Hospitalist and must beBoard Certified/Eligible in Internal Medicine. The incumbent will be assignedas the attending physician for patients admitted to the acute care ward. Willprovide medical evaluations and direct the overall m! anagement of the patientsin collaboration with the other members of the health care team. The incumbentalso acts to ensure that the treatment is timely and efficient in order thatthe patient may be discharged to an appropriate situation. Demonstratedexcellence in all facets of patient care is mandatory.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

order to qualify for this position you must meet the following:
Basic Requirements:
(1) CITIZENSHIP: Must be a citizen of the United States. (Non-citizens may be appointed
when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens).
(2) EDUCATION: Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a
course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have
been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veterans
Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved
schools are:
(a) Schools of medicine holding regular
institutional membership in the Association of American Medical Colleges for
the year in which the degree was granted.
(b) Schools of osteopathic medicine
approved by the American Osteopathic Association for the year in which the
degree was granted.
(c) Schools (including foreign schools)
accepted by the licensing body of a State, Territory, or Commonwealth! (i.e.
Puerto Rico), or in the District of Columbia as qualifying for full or
unrestricted license.
(d) For residents, graduation from an
approved medical school as described above is required except as provided in
M-8, part III, chapter 1.
(3) License and Registration:
(a) Physicians (Except Residents). Current,
full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a State, Territory, or
Commonwealth of the United States or in the District of Columbia. The physician
must maintain current registration in the state of license if this is a
requirement for continuing active, current licensure. The facility Director may
waive this license requirement if the physicians is to serve in a country other
than the United States and the dentist has licensure in that country.
(b) Impaired Licensure. A physician who
has, or has ever had, any license(s) revoked, suspended, denied, restricted,
limited, or issued/p! laced in a probationary status may be appointed only in
accordance ! with the provisions of paragraph 14, section B, chapter 3 of this
part.
(4) English Language Proficiency: Physicians, including residents, appointed to direct patient-care
positions must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38
U.S.C. 7402(d), 7407(d).
Applicant's education and length of practice
(experience) will be considered by a Professional Standards Board and
Compensation Panel in determining the grade and salary of the applicant
selected.
