Department Overview

Global Inventory, Obsolescence & Life Cycle Planning

The Global Inventory, Obsolescence & Life Cycle Planning department is responsible for planning, forecasting and optimizing Motorola Solutions' inventory to meet cash, cost, customer and revenue goals. In addition, the department manages the material planning for product life cycle events such as new product introductions, product bill of material changes and product cancellations.


Job Description

Lead and manage a small international team responsible for Motorola Solutions’ Global external manufacturing inventory. Develop inventory strategies that optimize Motorola Solutions ability to meet cost, cash, revenue and customer goals. Provide leadership to the Global External Manufacturing Inventory Team through performance management, coaching and rewards planning. Collaborate across multiple Supply Chain, Procurement and Finance functions to ensure alignment to financial and customer goals. Responsible for hiring, managing, training, developing and evaluating a team of ~3 direct staff in Asia and North America. Manage departmental budget. Prepare presentations for senior leaders to communicate strategies, outlooks and risks for inventory and obsolescence. Participate in supplier negotiations to achieve financial goals while maintaining relationships.

The Global External Manufacturing Inventory Team is based in Northeast Illinois (USA), Reynosa (Mexico) and Penang (Malaysia) and is responsible for:

  • Forecast inventory dollars and turnover results globally for Motorola Solutions inventory residing at MSI's EMS partners (external manufacturing suppliers).

  • Create and drive actions to optimize inventory balances to meet revenue, cost, cash and customer goals.

  • Create and drive actions to minimize obsolescence while ensuring continuity of supply.

  • Work with other functions in MSI to manage the variables that drive inventory and excess & obsolescence performance.

  • Monitor and maintain safety stock policies for EMS locations

  • Perform analysis of excess and obsolete (E&O) material and make recommendations for financial reserves.

  • Identify and take actions to mitigate excess inventory to minimize obsolescence cost.

  • Disposition reserved excess & obsolete inventory through sales, salvage or scrap.

  • Work closely with MSI Finance, Legal and Procurement partners and with EMS suppliers to negotiate, create and execute contracts regarding excess inventory at EMS locations.

Preferred Skills:

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Experience as a leader and manager of people preferred

  • Knowledge of MRP/ERP/material planning systems

  • Experience negotiating with suppliers

  • Limited international travel may be required.


Basic Requirements

Required Skills:

  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Business, Finance, or Supply Chain

  • 5+ years of experience in Supply Chain, Procurement or Finance

  • Strong financial acumen required.
